Logline
Tropicana is about two friends finding joy in the little things around Singapore. We journey with them on this adventure as both of them went seeking joy and happiness by embracing nature and the fine city landscapes of the country.
Purpose
This video was created to change the mindset of the "boring" lifestyle in Singapore and encourage the viewer to open their eyes to see the fun side of the country.
Music Choice
The music choice titled "Tropicana" by Topaz Jones and the singer-rapper brought out a quirky vibe through his various ad-libs and cheeky punchlines. This was something that the director deeply resonated with and left him urging to create a funky & groovy dance video while listening to this rhythm of the beat. Coincidentally, the original artist did not have an official music video for the song which the director felt like a big question mark left. Henceforth, the director was determined to give this piece of music a video, filling the visuals with his own adaptations.
Director’s Treatment
Creating a film-like with pop-ish color treatment to the vibrant and lively art style of the video, the overall intention was to give colors to those who have a dull perception of Singapore. “Through the enthusiastic dance expressions of the dancers, Ryan Lim & Liew Kai Lin, we want the audience to feel happier about exploring the fun side of Singapore”.
