Why Worry, When You Have Steigen?

Be it a rainy season or a last-minute drying situation, Steigen got you covered. The directors and producers found themselves depicting so many interesting points of the product in our latest commercial that we had many concepts of the experiences of different households. Eventually, the concept evolved into a concept featuring a set that displayed the life so two different households.

The Concept

The overall message was to feature Steigen’s app control and showcase their friendly customer service. We also wanted to demonstrate Steigen’s cost-friendly efficiency against the traditional dryer by showing how they can reduce drying time and repel dust mite at the same time.

Our director Aloysius Ong and Creative Producer Zheng Han wanted to show the contrast of two families with and without the Steigen product in a comedic advertisement, where the one with the Steigen product emphasizes a more sustainable lifestyle than the other.

Steigen Commercial Casts

We did a 3 part series of characters featuring a mother, father, grandmother and kid in a home. We will be showing two homes interacting side by side to display their excitement (Steigen user) and qualms (Non-Steigen user).

The Set

The set was meant to simulate two living spaces and the interaction styles of two household members in one unified space.

Our Art Director Javeus created a set that shows sustainability (Steigen home) and another which is less sustainable (Non-Steigen home).

Lighting

The first considerations are the lighting. Our Gaffer, Ashely, had to do convey the mood of a stormy night, soccer game night and a morning setting for the series.

Treatment

“Having the whole frame, including the product and foreground, in focus was very crucial. I needed to have a discussion with Terence (DOP) to see how we could achieve that together.”

- Director, Aloysius.

The calculations needed to be exact. It was very critical that the departments communicate with one another to bring the director’s vision to life. Numerous Pre-production meetings and site recce were held to ensure there are close to zero mishaps during the production days. The DOP had to discuss with the Art department to talk about the set design in relation to the focal length of the camera lense. Needless to say, having an open dialogue about the work flow was crucial towards the success of this project.

Other than the set design, the main challenge was still the coordination of the talents. We needed them to do a well-timed 30-seconds simultaneous dialogue while making it look like it was done in one take. Multiple practices via zoom was done to make sure that the shoot day will go smoothly without having too much hiccups. The talents did it perfectly on shoot day all thanks to the prep that was done beforehand.

So as a director, working closely with various departments is so essential. A good director need to have good communication skill in order achieve the right vision for everyone.

Post Production

Post Production really brought this whole series to life. VFX helped bring that realism to an otherwise fake house. Colour-grading was that final cherry on top of a nice delicious sundae that this video series.

The final videos can be shown on our displayed work page. We had a lot of fun conceptualising, producing and post-producting the video. Seeing our concept come to life and the client being happy with the outcome really made all those long night worth while.
